Ethiopia's tea industry has experienced a growth spurt in the 2023/24 fiscal year, with exports exceeding 1,142 tons and generating over USD 2 million in revenue. This represents a substantial increase of 292 tons compared to the previous year.
Ethiopia's Telebirr has partnered with Zeepay, the Ghanaian fintech company, to facilitate cross-border payments. The partnership aims to open up digital payments across Africa, and give Telebirr access to over 150 million customers.
Ethio Telecom launched Air Time Credit Service (ACS). The service allows the telecom’s customers to continue using the telecom’s services when they run out of balance or when they cannot buy vouchers because of time or money constraints.
Ethiopia’s telecommunications market is gearing up for further growth, with the arrival of a third telecom operator expected by late 2025 or early 2026, according to the Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA). Ethiopia's sole telecom services provider Ethio Telecom said it has reduced roaming tariff in 56 countries, by making agreements with 73 operators in the countries.
