Ethiopia's Oromia Region Completes Infrastructure Projects Worth Over $139 Mn

Various infrastructure projects with a total worth of over $139.7 million (4.8 billion birr) have been completed and are set to be inaugurated in Ethiopia's Oromia region, the communications bureau of the region announced.

Getachew Balcha, Head of the bureau, said 3,981 projects are completed and senior regional officials will inaugurate them starting from today.

The projects, which include health, school, irrigation development, water supply, roads, and athletic center, among others, will benefit 12.5 million people in the region, Mr. Getachew added.

Commenced in 2010, the projects took longer than originally anticipated due to several factors, such as financial, and monitoring and evaluation.

In a related note, Mr. Getachew has mentioned that the Oromia region expects to harvest 203 million quintals this rainy season from the six million hectares of land it tilled.

Moreover, an additional 200,000 hectares of land is being cultivated in the region to produce additional 36 million quintals to combat food shortage that might occur due to the coronavirus pandemic.
