Ethiopia's PM Abiy Met with CEOs of Mega Corporations in Davos

abiy-in-davos2Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) held a discussion with selected CEOs of multinational corporations in Davos, Switzerland, to highlight the multifaceted progresses Ethiopia is undergoing.

In the discussion PM Abiy has called attention to apparent improvements in spite of challenges and setbacks that are still present. He called the discussion as he flew to Davos to take part in the World Economic Forum.

The prime minister stated to the CEOs of the mega corporations that Ethiopia’s is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. He also pointed out the strategic importance of the country’s location for business, since it is located conveniently among Africa, the Middle East and Asia, “with enormous untapped investment opportunities in agriculture, textile, agro-processing, infrastructure and various [other] segments,” he said.

Ethiopia’s Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), a plan put in place so as for the government to actively promote private investment along with attractive incentive packages, aided by intense government projects, the prime minister added, is the “quint embodiment of the Africa rising narrative.” Ethiopia’s GTP, while giving much needed ease for investors, aims to help the country achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the stride to achieve a middle income country status by 2025.

According to the World Bank, Ethiopia continues to be one of the fastest growing economies on the globe, continuing its trend of growing on a rate of over ten per cent for over a decade.
