The Ethiopian Diaspora in the US have made a contribution of over $1.75 million so far for the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Fitsum Arega, Ethiopian ambassador to the US, announced.
The Ethiopian diaspora has sent $1.4 billion to the country in five months alone, Selamawit Dawit, Director-General of the Ethiopian Diaspora Agency announced. “We have done a lot of works in terms of promoting legal means and mobilizing legal means for the Diaspora to use it and to have the best possible performance on remittances,” she said.
The Ethiopian Diaspora Agency announced that Ethiopian diaspora from all over the globe have sent home $1.1 billion during the past three months via legal means.
The Ethiopian diaspora has sent $3.6 billion back home in remittance during the recently concluded Ethiopian fiscal year. The amount equates to what has been obtained from export.
