The Ethiopian Diaspora in the US have made a contribution of over $1.75 million so far for the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Fitsum Arega, Ethiopian ambassador to the US, announced.
Ambassador Fitsum, in a tweet, pointed out that the third round of funds raised for the GERD amounted to $757,294.
This, he said, brings the total amount of funds raised in three rounds to $1,757,304.78. The amount, Ambassador Fitsum said, has been transferred already.
Stressing on the link access to electricity has to rapid growth to the country of Ethiopia, in his tweet, the ambassador said the fundraising is still ongoing.
