The Ethiopian diaspora has sent $3.6 billion back home in remittance during the recently concluded Ethiopian fiscal year. The amount equates to what has been obtained from export.
Selamawit Dawit, Director-General of the Ethiopian Diaspora Agency, remarked this has been achieved despite the global economic setback due to COVID-19. The significant amount of the remittance indicates the diaspora community's "continued engagement and commitment" to Ethiopia, she said.
Ms. Selamawith added the diaspora agency has undertaken "meticulous tasks" in an effort to encourage the Ethiopian diaspora to send forex via legal means to lessen the lack of foreign currency, as well as back development endeavors.
