Ethiopia: Russia Pledges to Increase Economic Ties with Africa
Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged to increase trade, economic, and humanitarian ties between Russia and Africa during his speech at the second Russia-Africa Summit in Saint Petersburg. He stressed Russia's commitment to cement cooperation with African countries in the areas of energy, mining, infrastructure, education, health, and ICT sectors.
Ethiopia: Safaricom Signs an MoU with IPDC
Industrial Parks Development Corporation announced that it inked a memorandum of understanding with Safaricom Ethiopia to work together across industrial parks. Based on the agreement, the telecommunications company will lease 10 square meters of land in the Ethiopian Information Communication Technology (ICT) Park and invest USD 60 million. Safaricom will build a data center in the park and create jobs for 56 individuals.
The data center will mainly give services to Safaricom. Sandukan Abebe, CEO of IPDC, related that the agreement will contribute to Ethiopia’s digitalization plan.
Ethiopia: Safaricom Starts Customer Network Service Trials in Dire Dawa
Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia started a series of customer network service trials in Dire Dawa on 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. Customers are advised that they are now able to purchase Safaricom Ethiopia’s SIM cards after choosing their phone numbers from the Safaricom line which starts with 07.

Safaricom Ethiopia officially launched its M-PESA mobile financial services today following the receipt of a Payment Instrument Issuer License from the National Bank of Ethiopia three months ago.
