Ethiopia: Telebirr to Replace Manual Tax Collection System in Oromia State

Ethio Telecom and the Oromia Regional State’s Revenues Bureau have signed an agreement to implement a digital tax payment system through the Telebirr platform. This new system will replace the manual tax collection system, which has been causing unnecessary time and resource wastage for taxpayers.

Amhara Bank has announced that its paid-up capital has reached Birr 6 billion as it celebrates its first anniversary. The CEO of the bank, Henok Kebede, revealed that the bank's assets have reached Birr 28 billion, with Birr 19 billion in deposits and Birr 15 billion birr in loans to customers. 



The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has announced that it will grant licenses to five foreign banks to operate in Ethiopia. The aim is to bring foreign banks into the country while also supporting the development of local financial institutions.
The Federal Public Procurement and Property Authority (PPPA) has announced that starting from July 2023, 169 federal institutions will conduct their procurement electronically. The electronic procurement system (EPS) is designed to eliminate corruption and malpractices, and prevent budget embezzlement. It is expected that up to 25% of unnecessary expenses will be avoided after the system starts to be implemented.
