Ethiopia: North Shoa Registers New Investments Worth Birr 42 Billion

The North Shoa Zone in Ethiopia has seen a significant increase in investment in the past year. The zone initially planned to register investments totaling Birr 25 billion, but it ended up receiving investment registrations amounting to over Birr 42 billion. This is a 72% increase over the original target.

The Ministry of Mines has announced that the earnings from exported minerals totaled USD 226.8 million in the 2022/23 fiscal year. The Ministry also reviewed its performance during the year, highlighting that a total of Birr 896.8 million was granted to both domestic and foreign developers engaged in mineral exploration, production, and processing.
The Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Mamo Mihretu, has stated that the bank is working hard to finalize a regulatory framework that will allow foreign banks to operate in Ethiopia. This is part of an effort to deepen financial intermediation, regulate the financial sector, and accelerate digitization efforts.
