Ethiopia Secures $1BN FDI in 4 Months
Lelise Neme, Commissioner of Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) announced that Ethiopia has secured an FDI (foreign direct investment) of $1 billion during the first four months of the Ethiopian fiscal year that started on July 8, 2021.
Ethiopia has secured $2.8 billion from exports alone in the past ten months of the fiscal year that started in July 2020, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MoTI). This has shown an increase of 16 percent compared to $2.42 billion of the same period last year.
Ethiopia's Ministry of Mines announced that it has earned $241 million from the export of gold during the last five months. Takele Uma, Ethiopia's Minister of Mines, called the achievement "encouraging" despite various challenges posed especially due to security issues around mining sites.
Ethiopia has obtained $3.7 million from the export of electrical and electronic equipment during the first quarter of the Ethiopian fiscal year that started July 8, 2021.
