Ethiopia provided 58.01% of Kenya’s January import of electricity. The drought in Kenya forced the country to import a record 68.48 kilowatt-hours of power due to reduced local hydro-power generation. Ethiopia was able to gain USD 39.73 million from the export.
Ethiopia has secured USD 450 million from the textile industry, according to Textile Industry Development Institute.
Ethiopia secured USD 48.23 million in seven months from the export of electricity to neighboring countries. Accordingly, the country earned USD 24.5 million from electricity export to Djibouti while it gained USD 20.6 million and 3.09 million from exports to Sudan and Kenya, respectively.
According to Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP), only 10% of the country’s total generated power is being exported. The current installed power generation capacity of EEP is 5200 Megawatts.
Ethiopia earned a revenue of USD 57.73 million in the past seven months from exporting 10,434 tons of meat and meat by-products. The country was also able to gain close to USD 1.5 million from honey, wax, and camel milk during the same period. Goat meat was the most exported type of meat which registered USD 50.2 million from the total revenue gained from meat export.
Ethiopia gained USD 907.56 million in nine months by exporting more than 169 thousand tons of coffee, tea, and spices. Germany, Saudi Arabia, the United State, Kenya, the United Kingdom, China, and India were the major export destinations.
