Ethiopian Enterprise to Relocate Abattoir

The Addis Ababa Abattoirs Enterprise, Ethiopia is planning to move the Kera abattoir from Kirkos District to a new plant in Akaki Kaliti District. The announcement was made last week inviting bidding for consultant services to undertake a feasibility study and operational planning study for relocation.

The bid document explains that the move is designed to facilitate the improvement and modernization of the slaughtering services offered by the abattoir to meet the growing demand.

The move anticipated for the past 15 years will be funded by a 900 million birr soft loan from the Agence Francaise de Developpement.

The Mayor of New York City has named Bethlehem Tilahun as a New York City Venture Fellow in recognition of her achievements as an international entrepreneur. 

“This is really exciting. New York is a global business hub and I am really excited to be receiving this distinguished fellowship from Mayor Bloomberg,” said Bethlehem.

The NYC Venture selects 20-30 entrepreneurs from New York City and around the world through a competitive nomination process.

Ethiopian woman entrepreneur, Samrawit Moges, was honored, as one of a 100 women from across the globe, with inspirational achievements. The award, organized by The International Alliance for Women, was held in Washington DC on the 27th of October.

“We have been inspired and humbled by the stories of people like you who, often without fanfare, have taken action to support women’s economic empowerment and advancement in society and business” read the letter of award to Samrawit.

Samrawit is the first Ethiopian to be honored in the entrepreneurial category. She was nominated by Nigist Haile founder and Executive Director of the Center for African Women Economic Empowerment and honorary member of TIAW.
