Ethiopian Customs Commission Begins Import/Export Customs Service at Hawassa

Ethiopian Customs Commission announced it has started giving an import-export customs service at its Hawassa branch in the city of Hawassa in southern Ethiopia. The service, the commission said, commenced July 8, 2019.

The service will help decentralize the service which so far has been focused on Merkato, the biggest market area situated in the capital Addis Ababa. It also helps cut costs and efforts of traders who had to travel all the way to Addis Ababa seeking the service, the commission added. It will also enable the society to obtain goods at fair prices.

Furthermore, it will increase the competitiveness of traders in the region, along with helping lessen illegal schemes related to customs in the Merkato area, the commission added.
