Ethiopia: Wegagen to Launch Mobile and Internet Banking

Wereilu, a Woreda in South Wolo Zone of Amhara Regional State, commenced selling opal from its opal mine production. South Wolo zone occupies the first place among the areas in Amhara Region which are identified as having high mineral resources. It is speculated that the zone is also endowed with other types of mineral resources including oil, opal and coal.
The World Food Program (WFP) concluded forward delivery contract for the purchase of 40,000tns of maize from 29 farmers’ cooperatives’ unions, Fortune reported.
The WFP signed agreements with the Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA), the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) and four of the 29 unions, on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at the Harmony Hotel.
The second shipment of wheat, purchased by the Ethiopian government from Ukraine, is expected to reach the Port of Djibouti by the beginning of September. The total amount of the wheat is two Million Quintals.
Aysha Wind Farm II announced that it was connected to the national grid after 16 of its wind turbines with a capacity of producing 40 MW conducted a test run.
The windfarm is located 700 km east of Addis Ababa in Shenelle Woreda of the Somali Regional State and has a capacity to generate 120 MW of power.
The wind farm’s 80% construction is now completed. It will have 48 turbines when it becomes fully operational.
