Ethiopian Chamber to Open Academy

The Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association is to launch a training center that will focus on leadership and management in the business community. It is expected that the academy will begin operations in the coming three months.

The idea was initiated to enhance the leadership, management and entrepreneurship skills of its members in and other large enterprises Wube Mengistu, Head of the Plan, Project and Trade Development Department at ECCSA.

The feasibility study for the center was conducted at a cost 17 thousand birr by experts and instructors from the Business Faculty of Addis Ababa University. Ethiopia Receives $1.69 Billion in Loans

Ethiopia has received 1.69 billion US dollars in loans and grants in the last six months of the current budget year said Tewdros Adhanom, Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Most of the financing, an estimated 1.04 billion, was obtained from bilateral sources and the remaining funds from multilateral financial sources he said in his report to the House of Peoples Representatives.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Transport explained to members of the House of Peoples Representatives that it is committed to protecting some of the national market for the national flag carrier, Ethiopian Airlines.

The ministry is particularly aware of the threat from carriers based in the oil rich countries of the gulf which have an unfair competitive edge due to their cheaper air fare explained Diriba Kuma, Minister of Transport.

Deloitte is to develop agribusinesses, finance and mining efforts alongside its consulting work in Ethiopia. It will conduct its business efforts alongside its consulting tasks said Sammy Onyango, Chief Executive Officer for Deloitte East Africa.

The company came to the decision to partner with domestic advisory and accountancy firm HST to take advantage of Ethiopia’s human resources and significant economic development he explained.

Ethiopian Micro Enterprises Create 71088 Jobs

Micro and Small Enterprises in the Ethiopian capital have created 71,088 jobs in the last six months alone according to the Addis Ababa City Administration Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) Development Bureau.

This number is just 81 percent of the target 88102 jobs that the bureau had set for the period according to Leulseged Yefru Head  of the Bureau.

The construction sector alone was responsible for creating more than 43 thousand jobs accounting for a significant portion of the total said Leulseged. The manufacturing sector was able to employ almost 12 thousand people, urban agriculture created an estimated 3 thousand and the trade and service sectors together created more than 13 thousand jobs he explained.

The Ethiopian Aviation Academy announced that it is in the process of a large scale expansion project expected to cost an estimated 50 million US Dollars.

The academy is undertaking the expansion as part of its effort to increase its enrollment capacity to meet the ever increasing demand from trainees interested in its basic and recurrent training programs explained Tewolde Gebre-Mariam, Chief Executive Officer of the airline.

Ethiopia to Launch Trademark Re-registration

The Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office is to launch the process to re-register trademarks in the coming month it announced. The proclamation that authorizes the office to take this step was endorsed seven years ago.

The Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office issued 1500 separate patents and creative rights ownership certificates in the last fiscal year.

The office granted certificates after careful evaluation and all due consideration to ensure the originality of the creation both at home and internationally said Awkoke Shiferaw, Head of Communication Service with the office.
