LG Electronics to Open Technical College in Ethiopia

LG Electronics is to open a Technical & Vocational Education & Training College in September in Ethiopia. The college will offer courses in information technology and electronics maintenance.

The College will also offer additional courses in agriculture, according to Yong Geun Choi, representative for LG’s Ethiopia office speaking at the launch of the LG Hope Village in Sendafa, Ethiopia on April 16, 2013.

The TV and cell phone maintenance program offered will be specific to LG products, while the rest of the courses are general. LG will supply teaching materials and use Ethiopian instructors.

The college will open in September 2013 on rented facility. However. The agricultural program will be launched a year later, as currently there is no will TVET curriculum for agriculture in Ethiopia, according to Choi. LG’s college will accept 75 students into three departments for the first year. Students will graduate with a diploma upon completion of the two years programs.

LG Electronics produces a range of electronics equipment including mobile devices and digital TVs. The company oversees 114 subsidiary companies worldwide and has 82,000 employees.
