Installation work of a factory that manufactures concrete sleepers has begun in Ethiopia. The factory will produce sleepers for the 216 kilometers Meqele – Woldiya railway project and it will have the capacity to manufacture 1,000 sleepers a day. 

Almeda Textile Factory has concluded an expansion project it took with an investment of 86 million Birr in Adwa City, Ethiopia. The expansion is said to increase the company’s fabric production capacity by 100 percent.

Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Ethiopia’s largest dam upon completion, has reached a height of 75 meters. It now has a total height of 145 meters and it is more than halfway completed.

Intensive work is being done to complete the dam as per the schedule, Engineer Simegnew Bekele, Project Manager of the dam, said.

Development Bank of Ethiopia (DBE) called off its low interest rate loan. The loan scheme was given for exporters and investors engaged in import substitution. Even if most banks in Ethiopia give loans at a rate of 12 percent, DBE’s low interest rate loan was served with 9 and 8 percent. 

GatesAir, a global leader in wireless, over-the-air content delivery solutions for radio and TV broadcasters, has been awarded a contract to provide turnkey equipment and services associated with Ethiopia’s national digital TV (DTV) network. In support of the contract, GatesAir will design, supply, install, test and commission a DVB-T2 over-the-air network solution for 26 new transmission sites, and upgrade systems at 74 existing facilities. In addition, GatesAir will provide a financing solution through one of the world’s most prominent financial institutions, J.P Morgan, with support from Export Development Canada (EDC).

Mesfin Industrial Engineering PLC of Ethiopia in collaboration with Truck & Bus AG Company of Germany inaugurated a heavy truck assembly plant in Meqelle Town.

Ethiopia’s first expressway, Addis Ababa – Adama Expressway, generated 78 million Birr income during the first six months of the current fiscal year.

According to the Tewodros Asrat, Finance Team Coordinator at Ethiopian Toll Roads Enterprise, currently, the expressway in average serves 14,000 vehicles per day and generates 450,000 Birr income in the mean time.

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism rated hotels in Southern Nation, Nationalities and Peoples State – out of which four hotels got four stars. Haile Resort, Ker-Awud International Hotel, Lewi Hotel & Resort and South Star International Hotel, all located in Hawassa, are the four hotels which earned the four stars.

Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, announced on Thursday, March 10, 2016 the nation would soon launch a 2,000 megawatt hydropower dam. Without giving any further details, he told the House of Peoples’ Representatives the launch of the dam would commence soon.

Ethiopia announced new tourism brand, “Land of Origins”. The announcement was made during world’s largest tourism trade fair, Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin (ITB).

Engineer Aisha Mohammed, Minister of Culture and Tourism, attended the trade fair and gave a press conference regarding Ethiopia’s tourism potential and opportunities.
