Ethiopia: Almeda Finalizes Expansion Work

Almeda Textile Factory has concluded an expansion project it took with an investment of 86 million Birr in Adwa City, Ethiopia. The expansion is said to increase the company’s fabric production capacity by 100 percent.

The expansion is the first phase of three stages and it was undertaken in six months. It was mainly focused on replacing machinery with the latest products. To this goal, Almada imported Rieter brand C-70 carding machines, draw frame finisher machine and an open end R-35 from Germany and Switzerland, as well as a Muratec winding machine from Japan. According to Fortune, when compared to the replaced machine, the new ones easy to maintain and demand fewer spare parts.

In addition to these positive aspects, the new machines save energy and take lesser time to turn on and off. Teklemariam Tesfu, General Manager of the Factory, praised the machines calling them easily manageable.

The installation and commissioning of the equipment was handled by Almada’s technicians in collaboration with three experts from the suppliers.

The expansion is said to enhance Almada’s productivity. Spinning is said to increase fivefold while weaving will increase by 33 percent. Fabric making on the other hand will double and reach 7000 kilograms.

Almada’s plant lies on 450,000 square meters of land in Adwa City. The company was established 20 years ago under the umbrella of the Endowment Fund for the Rehabilitation of Tigray (EFFORT). Its raw materials are sourced from its sister company, Hiwot Farm Mechanization, found in Humera. It also gets its raw materials from other farms in the states of Afar, Gambela and the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples.
