Installation work of a factory that manufactures concrete sleepers has begun in Ethiopia. The factory will produce sleepers for the 216 kilometers Meqele – Woldiya railway project and it will have the capacity to manufacture 1,000 sleepers a day. 

Dereje Tefera, Corporate Communication Affairs Head at the Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC), said the railway project was 28 percent complete. The project will pass through 3 States; namely Amhara State, Afar State and Tigray State. The railway project was going as per the schedule set, Dereje noted. 

According to Fana Broadcasting Corporate, works are underway to manufacture segmental bridges.

The railway project is said to have so far created 2000 people. This number will increase in the future.
