United Insurance Company S.C. (UNIC), one of the insurance firms in Ethiopia, disclosed it started online insurance sales starting from January 1, 2017. The scheme allows clients to buy insurance policies online after transferring payments to the insurer’s bank account.

African Development Bank (AfDB) and Ethiopia concluded a financing agreement of 2 billion Birr. The agreement was signed on January 30, 2015. Out of the entire 2 billion Birr, 65 percent of it was extended as grant while the rest 780 million was loan.

Development Bank of Ethiopia (DBE) has announced it will resume extending loan for rain fed commercial farming. The bank is going to restart the program starting from February 1, 2017.

Ethiopia managed to hit only 56.6 percent of the target it set for the export of manufactured goods during the first 6 months of the current fiscal year. Half year report released by the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA), shows Ethiopia has spent more than 9 billion Birr for the construction of roads in the first 6 months of the current fiscal year. The expense is close to one-fifth of the total budget allocated for the entire fiscal years.

The first 5 months of the current fiscal year saw Ethiopia earning 1 billion USD from its export sector. This was only 60 percent of the target the government put at the beginning of the current fiscal year.
