From the entire 8 tunnels being drilled on the Meqelle – Woldia/ Hara Gebeya railway project, one the mega projects in Ethiopia, 2 tunnels that are each 2 kilometers long have been holed through. This was disclosed by the project’s head, Gebremedhin Gebrealif.

The entire project has now reached 44 percent completion rate, the project head explained. The holing through of the tunnels would have a huge impact on the pace of the project, he furthered.

From all the 8 tunnels the longest is 3.6 kilometers long and it is dubbed Myselfi Tunnel. The holing through of this tunnel has now reached more than 2.2 kilometers.

The entire construction project is being undertaken by China Communications Construction Co (CCCC). The project is expected to cost 1.5 billion USD.
