Oromia Mineral Development Authority called investors and associations that are engaged in the mining industry across Oromia to re-register their business between May 17 and 20, 2023. The Authority stated that smuggling and widespread illegal activities in the mining industry had become bottlenecks for the proper management of the industry in the region.

The Ethiopian Sugar Industry Group announced its commitment to completely replacing the country's sugar demand with domestic production within the next five years by scaling up sugar production from the current 3.6 million quintals to 13 million.

Wereilu, a Woreda in South Wolo Zone of Amhara Regional State, commenced selling opal from its opal mine production. South Wolo zone occupies the first place among the areas in Amhara Region which are identified as having high mineral resources. It is speculated that the zone is also endowed with other types of mineral resources including oil, opal and coal.
