Ethiopia: Addis Ababa Hosts IGAD Fisheries Coordination Platform Workshop

IGAD-IGADAddis Ababa is hosting the IGAD Fisheries Coordination Platform Workshop which reflects on the performance and activities of the IGAD ECOFISH program at national and IGAD levels. The three days workshop which will be closed on August 18 is also aimed at strengthening inter-regional collaboration of the IGAD sub-region to promote sustainable, inclusive, and integrated management of fishery resources.

Ethiopia’s State Minister of Agriculture Fikru Regassa, IGAD’s Executive Secretary representative Abebe M. Beyene, and Madev Ballo, Regional Manager of EU’s Regional Sustainable Fisheries Management Program for Eastern Africa, Southern Africa, and Indian Ocean Region are among the participants of the workshop.

Discussion on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals was held between Ethiopia and Algeria. The discussion was led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Algeria Nebiat Getachew and Dr. Abderrahmane Benbahmed, Algeria’s Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry.

Ethiopia’s potential for Algerian pharmaceutical companies, the country’s regulations on the pharmaceutical industry, and the incentives available for investors who engage in the industry were raised during the discussion.

Ethiopia: Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration Vows to Collaborate with Exporters to Increase Earning

The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration announced that it would work to solve problems in the export sector and collaborate with exporters to realize Ethiopia’s plan of securing USD 5.4 billion from exports in the 2022/2023 fiscal year. Ethiopia was able to earn USD 4.12 billion from export during the last fiscal year which ended on July 7.

Ethiopia: Dire Dawa Free Trade Zone Starts Operation

Dire Dawa Free Trade Zone was launched on Sunday by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The free trade zone was established as part of Ethiopia’s 10 years development plan, it was learnt.

It is reported that Dire Dawa’s proximity to ports, market potential, and sustainability for multimodal transportation and logistics operation has made it preferrable for Ethiopia’s first free trade zone.
