Discussion on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals was held between Ethiopia and Algeria. The discussion was led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Algeria Nebiat Getachew and Dr. Abderrahmane Benbahmed, Algeria’s Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry.
Ethiopia’s potential for Algerian pharmaceutical companies, the country’s regulations on the pharmaceutical industry, and the incentives available for investors who engage in the industry were raised during the discussion.
The two countries vowed to work jointly towards robust cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals and expressed their desire to sign a partnership Memorandum of Understanding. The MoU is planned to be inked between Algeria’s Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health. Another MoU between the National Agency for Pharmaceutical Materials of Algeria and Ethiopian Food and Drug Administration is also planned to be signed.
It is to be recalled that President Sahle-Work Zewde of Ethiopia and President Abdulmajid Tebboune of Algeria met in July this year and agreed to take concrete steps to raise the volume of trade exchange and expand areas of bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest.
