Ethiopian Aviation Academy Graduates Trainees

The Aviation Academy of Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopia’s flag carrier, graduated 20 pilots and 22 Aviation Maintenance Technicians at a ceremony held at the airline headquarters on the 30th of April.

The graduating pilots completed more than 695 hours of classroom and Multi-Engine aircraft training which included 60 hours of in flight training devices. The graduates have also qualified the ICAO level-1 English proficiency requirement as part of their training.

The Aviation Maintenance Technicians graduates have been trained with B737 Aircraft Avionics system course which enabled them to acquire the required theoretical and practical knowledge to qualify then as Aviation Technicians.

Ethiopian Third Party Insurance Coverage to Include Temporary Licenses Plates

Compulsory Third Party Insurance Coverage in Ethiopia is to include vehicles with temporary and daily vehicle license plates who had avoided the insurance so far.

The letter requiring all vehicles seeking temporary and daily license plates to get compulsory third party insurance coverage was issued in the beginning of April by the Federal Transport Authority to regional branch offices.

Vehicle owners are required to present customs declaration forms, import licenses, bills of lading and pink papers from the FTA to ensure that all vehicles stated on the declaration forms are brought into the country to get the temporary license plates.

Ethiopian Capital to Install City Clocks

Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa is to install city clocks in different squares around the city it was said.

The first clock was designed, assembled and installed by Yohannes Abebe Printing and Advertising Company on the square opposite of Edna mall last week. The company expects to install an estimated 500 similar clocks across the city by the end of 2013.

The clocks are aimed to provide an alternative means of advertisement by offering an efficient and effective means of displaying information serving a dual purpose according to Debebe Fekadu, Marketing Manager of the company.

Ethiopian Airlines Takes Charge of New Boeing Aircraft

Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopia’s flag carrier, announced that it has taken charge of the Boeing 737-800 Sky Interior Aircraft ordered in December 2009.

The company is focused on investing in modernizing its fleet and the new 737-800 Sky Interior aircraft built with high technology to provide customers with the comfort and style to enhance the air travel experience according to Tewolde Gebre-mariam, Chief Executive of Ethiopian Airlines.

The airline expects to deploy the new Sky Interior to East African tourist destinations such as Daressalam, Mombassa, Seychelles during day flights and Delhi, Bombay, Dubai and Kuwait at night.

Tesco Considering Mega Store in Ethiopia

Tesco, British multinational merchandise retailer, is conducting negotiations to open a mega store in Ethiopia.

Ethiopian government representatives began negotiations with Tesco as part of the efforts to invite international wholesalers and retailers to combat inflation.

Multinational companies maybe the solution to the national market which has been unable to deliver basic commodities at affordable prices according to sources.
