Airbus Marketing Aircraft to Ethiopian Airlines

Airbus is marketing more Airbus aircraft to Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopia’s flag carrier it was learned.

The aircraft manufacturer has presented the A330 aircraft for the management team at Ethiopian according to executives with Airbus.

Ethiopian Airlines is in the process of evaluating the aircraft after a technical team from Airbus made a presentation to senior airline officials in November of last year said Crawford Hamilton, Director of the A330 program with Airbus.

Ethiopian Transport Authority Warns Against Overloading

The transport authority of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia warns transporters from overloading freight transports above the licensed capacity.

Transporters are required to put a tag notifying of the freight capacity of each truck with reference to the registration before the 9th of June said authority representatives at a meeting held earlier this week.  

The transport authority was forced to take corrective measures because some enterprises are illegally transporting trucks loaded with goods beyond their capacity even though they have been licensed to carry specific weight limits it was said.

Ethiopia Certifies 36,000 Civil Engineers

The Ministry of Urban Development and Construction, Ethiopia announced the registration and certification of 36,000 construction and design engineers to date.  

The Ministry certified 24,030 Construction Engineers and 12,219 Design Engineers said Temesgen Tesfaye, Director of the Engineers Registration and Certification Directorate of the MUDC at a joint consultative meeting organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and a consortium of the Ethiopian Engineering Professional Associations.

An engineer is required to possess an accredited degree in the field to be certified although registration and certification of professional engineers requires work experience in addition to academic qualifications according to Temesgen.

Ethiopia Seeks Buyers for Two Public Enterprises

The Privatization and Public Enterprises Agency of Ethiopia is seeking interested bidders for two of the five enterprises it is offering for privatization.

The two enterprises which have been unable to excite interest from potential buyers are the Hamaressa Edible Oil SC and Batu Construction SC.

The Commercial Printing Press, Caustic Soda Ash SC and Fafa Food Complex Warehouse were the other three companies offered for privatization at the same time.

Ethiopia to Improve Cotton Quality

Ethiopia is working towards improving the quality of cotton used as a main raw material in textile sectors according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

A training was launched in Benshangul Gumuz Regional state for investors engaged in cotton development with this end in mind.

There are currently investors and organized farmers developing cotton on 124,000 hectares and the ministry aims to address challenges including shortage of expertise, capital, chemical, selected seeds and other materials said Haile-Mariam Kibret, Agro-investment Support with the MoA.
