Ethiopian Micro Enterprises Create 71088 Jobs

Micro and Small Enterprises in the Ethiopian capital have created 71,088 jobs in the last six months alone according to the Addis Ababa City Administration Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) Development Bureau.

This number is just 81 percent of the target 88102 jobs that the bureau had set for the period according to Leulseged Yefru Head  of the Bureau.

The construction sector alone was responsible for creating more than 43 thousand jobs accounting for a significant portion of the total said Leulseged. The manufacturing sector was able to employ almost 12 thousand people, urban agriculture created an estimated 3 thousand and the trade and service sectors together created more than 13 thousand jobs he explained.

Ethiopian Airlines to Expand Aviation Academy

The Ethiopian Aviation Academy announced that it is in the process of a large scale expansion project expected to cost an estimated 50 million US Dollars.

The academy is undertaking the expansion as part of its effort to increase its enrollment capacity to meet the ever increasing demand from trainees interested in its basic and recurrent training programs explained Tewolde Gebre-Mariam, Chief Executive Officer of the airline.

The expansion project will include the construction of buildings and supplying the Academy with computer based trainings, modern training aircraft, simulators, and other high tech facilities he said. Add a comment Add a comment

Ethiopian Airlines to Host MRO Conference

Ethiopian Airlines is to host the 22md Annual Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul International Conference and Exhibition from the 25th to the 27th of February.

More than 250 participants, from across the world including aircraft manufacturers, component suppliers and other airlines are expected to take part in the conference explained the statement released by Ethiopian.

The airlines is happy to host this international conference and expects to offer a unique opportunity for key stakeholders in the sector to showcase their services and take advantage of means to develop MRO partnerships said Zemene Nega, Senior Vice President for MRO services for Ethiopian Airlines. Ethiopia to Launch Trademark Re-registration

The Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office is to launch the process to re-register trademarks in the coming month it announced. The proclamation that authorizes the office to take this step was endorsed seven years ago.

The Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office issued 1500 separate patents and creative rights ownership certificates in the last fiscal year.

The office granted certificates after careful evaluation and all due consideration to ensure the originality of the creation both at home and internationally said Awkoke Shiferaw, Head of Communication Service with the office.

U.S. Launches Farm Service Program in Ethiopia

The United States government launched a Commercial Farm Service Program under the USAID to support the agricultural growth plan of the Ethiopian government according to an announcement from the Embassy of the United States in Addis Ababa.

The program will be part of the American presidential ‘Feed the Future Initiative’ in Ethiopia said the announcement.

The two year program will include grants and trainings for rural entrepreneurs in an effort to create a wholesale farm service center and six retail centers. These centers will be designed to meet the operational requirements of farmers. Add a comment Add a comment
