The number of bank deposit accounts in Ethiopia has risen from 98.59 million in June 2022 to 129.52 million in June 2023, the National Bank of Ethiopia revealed.
The Bank of Abyssinia opened its new branch in Ferensay Legasion, Addis Ababa. The new branch is named after Wami Biratu who was once one of the best long-distance runners in Ethiopia. Wami Biratu officially opened the Branch and thanked the Bank for recognizing his achievements by naming a branch after him.
When the bank began its services in 1996, it had only one branch. Currently, it has 296 branch networks nationwide, of which 142 are in Addis Ababa.

Bank of Abyssinia (BoA) concluded a contract with Computer Business Machines (CBM), a Lebanon-based company for the purchase of 50 Automatic Teller Machines (ATM), on December 7, 2013, Fortune reported.
BoA has also selected S2M, a Moroccan company for the supply of 200 Point of Sale terminals (PoS) and a switch system, however they have yet to sign the contract, according to Fortune.
