Arba Minch City has earned Birr 16.7 million in tourism revenue so far this Ethiopian fiscal year, marking an increase of Birr 7 million compared to the same period last year, according to Mesfin Menza (PhD), the mayor of the city.

The Mayor highlighted that over 10,000 tourists, mostly domestic visitors, traveled to Arba Minch this year. The city now plans to triple its tourism revenue within four years by enhancing and promoting its attractions, including Lakes Abaya and Chamo, Ye-Egzer Dildiy, NechSar National Park, and the Crocodile Ranch.

Renovation and promotional campaigns are underway alongside a corridor development project designed to beautify the city, increase its international competitiveness, and create jobs. The Mayor also noted the expansion of hotels, resorts, cafes, and guesthouses, which is helping improve tourist comfort and the city’s image.

Additionally, Arba Minch aims to position itself as a clean, smart, and environmentally friendly destination. To diversify tourism, the city is investing billions of Birr in constructing the Arba Minch International Stadium to attract sports tourism.

Beyond tourism, Mayor Mesfin emphasized that Arba Minch was becoming a hub for horticulture, particularly bananas, mangoes, avocados, and apples, and was attracting manufacturing investors.
