The Ministry of Agriculture has launched the National Horticulture Strategy and the Flagship Program for Plantation Development, aiming to boost Ethiopia’s horticulture sub-sector over the next decade.
Ethiopia’s coffee export sector continues to deliver results, with the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority announcing that the country earned over USD 674 million from coffee exports in the first four months of the current fiscal year.
Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority announced that Ethiopia gained USD 702 million in the past seven months by exporting 126,649 tons of coffee. The revenue is short of USD 165 from the initial target which aimed to collect USD 867 million from 181,323 tons of coffee export.
Ethiopia generated USD 71 million in the past 9 months from electricity export. The Ministry of Water and Energy stated that efforts were being made to overcome the foreign currency shortage in the country by increasing income from the sale of electricity. The country was able to export 10,725 Gigawatts of power during the same period.
Ethiopia has earned USD 908 million from coffee exports over the past six months, exceeding its target, according to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA).
