Ethiopia earned more than 60 million US dollars from the export of oil seeds last month according to Kebede Chane, Minister of Trade.
The revenue was earned from the export of 48,000 tons of oil seeds said Kebede speaking at the opening of the International Conference on Oil Seeds, Pulses and Spices, held in Addis Ababa.
Export trade is significant for the Ethiopian agriculture led development strategy and sesame production has been contributing to enhance the nations export income he noted.
The conference and other forums like it are expected to contribute to promoting the country’s products to the international market observed Kebede.Stakeholders in the sector should exert strengthened efforts to make export products competitive on the international market urged the Minister.
The conference is expected to support local exporters form links with purchases on the world market according to Hailu Berhe, President of the Oil Seeds, Pulses and Spices Processors and Exporters Association.
It is also hoped that the conference will create a chance to promote the investment opportunities available in the country and create a positive image Hailu said.
The conference is targeted to enhance market ties considerably noted Tewodros Yilma, Chairperson of the Conference Organizing Committee.
The three day conference being held in Addis Ababa has attracted an estimated 300 participants from Africa, Europe and Asia.
