Ethiopia Earns $66.4 Mn from Electricity Exports to Sudan, Djibouti

electric-power-gridEthiopia has collected $66.4 million from the electricity it exported to neighboring Sudan and Djibouti in the Ethiopian fiscal year that ended on July 7, Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) announced.

EEP has noted that the earning surpasses its target of $57 million set for the year by 16 percent ($11.5 million). $29.3 million has been obtained from the exports to Sudan, while the rest, $37.1 million is from Djibouti.

Adequate rainfall and Ethiopia's ability in managing power outage helped surpass the target, it was noted.

Noting that Ethiopia has embarked on electricity integration with other African nations, including Tanzania, South Sudan, and Somaliland, EEP highlighted that the transmission line that links Ethiopia's power grid to Kenya is to be completed and go operational soon.
