The sole telecom service provider in Ethiopia, Ethio Telecom, announced it has made a 10 to 40 per cent tariff reduction on international voice calls, and up to 51 per cent reduction on international short text messaging.
Ethio Telecom has developed a three-year growth strategy for the three year period 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2023, and a business plan for the year 2020/21, the first year of the period for which it has devised a growth strategy. To ensure competitiveness and sustainable growth of the company, the strategy has been developed by considering and reviewing relevant government policies, international best practices, and Industry trends, Ethio Telecom said in a statement.
Ethio-telecom has earned 10 billion birr from the sale of SIM cards and mobile credits in the just ended financial year. The
revenue earned by the corporation does not include the money earned by the 173 shops owned by the telecom across Ethiopia.
The corporation has planned to earn 8.2 million birr from the sale of SIM cards but was only able to collect 7.5 million while it earned just 9.8 billion birr of the 13 birr it had planned to raise from mobile credit cards.

Ethio Telecom reported that it generated more than Birr 85 billion in revenue during the first six months of the 2025/26 fiscal year, highlighting what it described as strong progress against its half year targets.
