Ethiopian Electric Power will conclude a contract with TBAE Co. Ltd., a Chinese company, for the construction of high-power transmission lines and distribution stations in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. The construction is said to cost 98 USD.
The Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) is said to revise tariffs on the sale of electric energy, Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) reported.
Ethiopian Electric Power concluded an agreement with China Electric Power Equipment and Technology Ltd on June 19, 2015 to construct the Ethio-Kenya transmission line project, according to Ethiopian News Agnecy.
Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation has given its clients the option to import their own transformers so as to access high voltage power quickly.
EEPCo gave its clients this option because it does not have enough transformers to meet the demand leading to constant delays according to sources.
The corporation has offered to options for its clients, to wait for it supply the transformers or to import the components on the basis of EEPCo’s specifications said Misikir Negash, Public Relations Head for the Corporation.
Ethiopia has launched the export of electric power to the Republic of Sudan. The corporation began test export four weeks ago along the Gadarif Galabat electric power transmission line according to Mihret Debebe, Chief Executive of the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation.
It is expected that the power transmission line will be inaugurated by Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and Sudanese President Omar Albashir.
The transmission makes Sudan the second country after Djibouti to import power from Ethiopia.
