The Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) is said to revise tariffs on the sale of electric energy, Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) reported.
EEP sells power to Ethiopian Electricity Service that is responsible for delivery of electric services.
Engineer Azeb Asnake, CEO of EEP told FBC October 29, 2015, the tariff revision was intended at filling the gap in generation cost and selling price of electric power.
To generate one KWh of energy, EEP spends nine US cents, yet sells it with six US cents. The new power tariff is meant to fill such gap. According to the CEO, Ethiopian government subsidizes the sector in order to fill the gap in production cost and selling price of electric power.
EEP has undertaken a study to implement the new power tariff gradually, thus the increase will not have an immediate effect on all things at once, including investment, the CEO noted.
