Russian Automakers Eye Ethiopia for Assembly Plant

Russian automakers are exploring the possibility of establishing an assembly plant in Ethiopia. In early April, representatives from renowned Russian car manufacturers Lada and GAZ Group expressed their interest in investing in the Dire-Dawa Free Trade Zone in Ethiopia. During their meeting with the leadership of the Ethiopian Industrial Parks Development Corporation, the representatives expressed their desire to manufacture various products and supply them to the Ethiopian market.
The state-owned Russian Railway Company is in discussions with the government of Ethiopia on potential opportunities to engage in railway development projects, according to The Reporter.
X5 Retail Group, Russia’s leading food retailer, announced it will start importing flower supplies directly from Ethiopia. The company aims to do so via its subsidiary responsible for direct imports, RVI.
