Car Manufacturing

Russian automakers are exploring the possibility of establishing an assembly plant in Ethiopia. In early April, representatives from renowned Russian car manufacturers Lada and GAZ Group expressed their interest in investing in the Dire-Dawa Free Trade Zone in Ethiopia. During their meeting with the leadership of the Ethiopian Industrial Parks Development Corporation, the representatives expressed their desire to manufacture various products and supply them to the Ethiopian market.

Last week, Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin met with Ethiopian House of Federation Speaker Agegnehu Teshager to discuss economic cooperation. Volodin stated that Ethiopia was an important partner for Russia in Africa and Russian companies were interested in establishing long-term partnerships with Ethiopian counterparts in various sectors, including mining, energy, transport, construction, and agriculture.

Agegnehu Teshager on his part stated that while relations with Russia were strong, they should be further developed, particularly in the areas of trade and investment. He emphasized that Ethiopia wanted Russia to become its primary trade destination.
