Meta Platforms, in partnership with Ethio telecom, has announced a flagship initiative aimed at enhancing digital services in Ethiopia. This collaboration follows strategic discussions between Ethio telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamru and Meta’s Director of Business Development for the Middle East and Africa, Vikas Menon, along with senior Meta executives.
The Metal and Engineering Corporation urged the Ethiopian government to create a policy solution for the challenges 
associated with the taxed imposed on imported goods.
The tax imposed on imported manufacturing goods and raw materials for industrial use which are essential to the manufacturing process are much higher in Ethiopia than in other countries said Kinfe Dagnew, Brigadier General of the Corporation speaking to the House of People’s Representatives.
The tax imposed on locally manufactured goods are lower than in other countries of similar economic status which is encouraging to manufacturers but the taxes levied on imported equipment vital to the manufacturing sector remain high he added.The 3rd Metal and Engineering International Exhibition was opened in Ethiopia. The exhibition is targeted at promoting the metal industry sector and developing market relationships between the domestic and international metal institutions.
It is expected that the exhibition will serve as a platform to bring together those engaged in the sector.
Several project launched in Ethiopia as part of developmental initiatives such as the railway network, hydro electric power generating dams, sugar and fertilizer factories all require a significant amount of input from the metal sector according to Tadesse Haile, State Minister for Industry.
The Metal and Engineering Corporation of Ethiopia has agreed to replace the electric meters operated by the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation. The project is valued at nine billion birr and will exchange electric meters for new ‘smart’ meters.
The new ‘smart’ digital meters are expected to automatically register electric consumption and report back to EEPCo without requiring manual reading like the analog meters currently being used. 
MetEC has employed an estimated 2000 workers to be paid per every new meter they install according to sources.
The Metal and Engineering Corporation concluded a deal to acquire the Ethiopian Riviera International Hotel, primarily owned by Alem Fitsum.
The deal includes the three star hotel and a PVC and plastics manufacturing plant located behind the hotel.
The deal was struck for approximately 140 million birr with negotiation still going on and handover expected in the coming weeks according to sources. MetEc aims to utilize the hotel to house guests that will stay for more than a month saving it a lot of money according to an unofficial source with the corporation.
