Ethiopian Roads Authority Plans New Road Projects

Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) signed road construction agreements to construct fifteen roads worth 25.8 billion birr. The agreements were signed with eleven firms, local and Chinese on Thursday.
The Ethiopian Roads Authority signed a 3.9 billion Birr agreement for the construction of 197km of roads. The agreement was signed between the Authority and two Chinese construction companies.
The roads to be constructed are in Oromia, Amahara, and Afar regional states for the Tana Beles Sugar factory, which is under construction by the Ethiopian government.
The first 100 km stretching from Enjibar, Amhara region, to Pawi, in Benishangul-Gumuz was given to the China Communication Construction Company.
The Ethiopian Roads Authority signed agreements with five contractors to construct and upgrade six road projects estimated at more than 3.2 billion birr. The roads to be constructed are part of the 4th Road Sector Development Program.
The roads to be constructed will include the Mazoriya-Durame-Durgi-Omo River road, Yalo-Nehile and the alternate Azezo-Gorgora road. It is also expected that the Felegeselam-Ameya-Chida road and the road linking Bonga with Felegeselam will be upgraded to asphalt level.Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) concluded agreements with domestic and foreign companies to construct 600 kilometers asphalt roads in Afar, Oromia, Amhara, and Tigray regional states. The eight road projects will cost Birr 14 billion. According to Habtamu Tegegn, the authority’s Director General, the cost will be covered by the government.
