Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopia’s flag carrier, won the Gold Award in the African Airline of the Year 2011/12 Award organized by the African Aviation News Portal.

The team at Ethiopian Airlines is pleased by the vote of confidence establishing its services as the leading airline on the African continent said Tewolde Gebremariam, Chief Executive Officer of the airline, in response to the award announcement.

Ethiopian Airlines received a majority of the votes cast by readers and fans of African Aviation to become the clear winner according to a statement issued by the airline.

Ethiopian Airlines wins multiple prestigious awards at SKYTRAX 2022 World Airline Awards, and moves 11 ranks up in the world’s top 100 Airlines. In a press release sent to 2merkato.com on 23 September 2023, Ethiopian Airlines, the largest Aviation Group in Africa, expressed its pleasure in announcing that it had been named the winner of four awards at the SKYTRAX 2022 World Airline Awards, at a ceremony held in London on 23 September 2022.

 Ethiopian has taken the crown for:

• Best Airline in Africa 2022 for 5 consecutive years,
• Best Business Class Airline in Africa 2022 for 4 consecutive years,
• Best Economy Class Airline in Africa 2022 for 4 consecutive years and
• Best Business Class Onboard Catering in Africa

Moving an incredible 11 ranks up, Ethiopian has also been placed 26th in the World's Top 100 Airlines for 2022 as voted by airline customers around the world.

The World Airline Awards are independent and impartial, introduced in 1999 to provide a customer satisfaction study that was truly global. Travelers across the world vote in the largest airline passenger satisfaction survey to decide the award winners. Ethiopian Airlines offered Air Zimbabwe, the flag carrier of Zimbabwe, a partnership deal that includes Ethiopian bringing planes, training pilots and assisting Air Zimbabwe to become an aircraft maintenance hub in the South African Development Community (SADC) region.

Ethiopian Airlines Group and the Boeing Company have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on positioning Ethiopia as an aviation hub for Africa, Ethiopian Airlines said in a statement sent to 2merkato.com. Building on the two parties’ seventy years of shared history in aviation, the MoU aims at positioning Ethiopia as Africa’s aviation hub - “Ethiopia for Africa”, the statement read.

Ethiopian Airlines and Boeing [NYSE: BA] today announced an agreement to double wire harness production at Ethiopian Airlines’ Wire Harness Facility.

The Wire Harness Facility, based in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, opened in 2009 and currently supplies seat-to-seat wire harnesses for all Boeing commercial airplane programs. Following today’s announcement Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines will place additional work at the facility, which will double its output by the end of 2014. With support from Boeing, Ethiopian will manufacture more varied and complex wire harnesses, expanding its value as an aerospace supplier.
