Ethiopia: SMEs Created 1.8 Million Jobs

Federal Urban Job Creation and Food Security Agency disclosed in the concluding fiscal year 1.8 million jobs were created by micro and small enterprises (SMEs).
Addis Ababa’s Micro and Small-scale Enterprises Development Bureau announced it will start implementing a new system which integrates support from the government to SMEs as well enhance mutual support between themselves.
Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ State (SNNPS), one of the states in Ethiopia under the federal arrangement, disclosed it is ready to create job opportunities for 600,000 unemployed people.
Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples’ State (SNNP) Culture and Tourism Bureau disclosed the state has been visited by more than 1 million tourists from abroad as well as Ethiopia in the just concluded fiscal year.
Southern Nations’, Nationalities’, and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR) licensed 96 investors who collectively had Birr 9.3 billion capital during the first half of the current fiscal year. The investors are currently engaged in agriculture, service, and industry sectors.
The Regional State was also able to create job opportunities for 200 thousand citizens. It is expected that the newly licensed 96 companies will employ 46 thousand citizens when they become fully operational.
