Ethiopia: SMEs to Organize Under a New System

Addis Ababa’s Micro and Small-scale Enterprises Development Bureau announced it will start implementing a new system which integrates support from the government to SMEs as well enhance mutual support between themselves.

According to the Bureau Head, Tilahun Worku, cluster formation for SMEs is intended for enhancing the enterprises to grow into a higher level while maintain the value chain activities from provision of inputs to packing produces and selling.

Tilahun further noted, services such as accessing loan, technology, market information and other supports was not easy for SMEs was set up separately. He added, studies were carried out with technical and vocational institutions and other relevant organizations.

SMEs engaged in manufacturing sector have taken pilot tests which encouraging results were achieved. Thus, Tilahun noted, all SMEs will be organized under the new system.
