Ethio Telecom has inaugurated its third super fast electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Addis Ababa. The new facility, which was opened yesterday in the Summit Fiyel Bet area, features 16 high capacity super fast chargers and is set to  boost the city’s EV charging network.

The launch forms part of Ethio Telecom’s broader strategy to advance Ethiopia’s digital transformation and contribute to the country’s climate-resilient green economy. “As electric vehicles become more popular in our country, it is essential to strengthen the ecosystem with sustainable infrastructure. We have therefore built and commissioned these charging stations in a short period to meet growing demand,” the company’s CEO, Frehiwot Taniru said.

The newly launched station incorporates energy efficient, high speed charging technology powered by artificial intelligence, ensuring vehicles are charged at optimal speeds while maintaining sustainable power usage.

Ethio Telecom has already deployed EV charging stations capable of serving up to 32 vehicles simultaneously. Since February 2025, the company’s charging network has powered more than 165,000 electric vehicles, delivering 4,349,761.54 kilowatt hours of energy. According to the company, this shift toward clean transport has helped prevent an estimated 6,081,447.62 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions.

Ethio Telecom stated that it remained committed to supporting Ethiopia’s digital economy through environmentally friendly technologies and would continue to play a central role in the country’s sustainable development efforts.
