The Ethiopian Roads Administration (ERA) has announced the construction of nine major road projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity between Addis Ababa and the nearby city of Sheger.
ERA Deputy Director General, Alemayehu Ayele (PhD), briefed media outlets on the initiative, highlighting that four of the projects focus on increasing exit routes from Addis Ababa. These include a 14.73 km road from Addis Ababa to Holeta, featuring a 50-meter width with dedicated lanes for pedestrians, cyclists, and green spaces.
Additional projects include a 4.74 km road from Entoto Saint Mary to Gulele Botanic Garden, a 9 km route from the Space Observatory to Chaka, and an 18 km stretch from Entoto to Kotebe. A 17 km road connecting Tafo Roundabout to Legedadi Kura-Gida is also set to begin construction soon.
“These roads are designed to serve the city for the next 20 years,” Alemayehu stated, emphasizing their role in reducing travel time, improving tourism access, and enhancing long-distance connectivity between various states. He noted that ERA is committed to ensuring high-quality construction and timely completion of these infrastructure projects.
