Enterprise Posts 593 Million Birr Profit

The Ethiopian Shipping & Logistics Services Enterprise reported a profit of 593 million Ethiopian Birr, in the last nine months of the current Ethiopian Fiscal Year.

Ethiopia Earned over USD 2.2 Bln from Export Trade

Ethiopia earned over 2.2 billion USD from export of different products during the last nine months, the Ministry of Trade said. Public relation and communication affairs office head with the Ministry, Amakele Yimam told Ethiopian News Agency that the amount was secured from export of 9.63 million tons of different products to 126 countries. GCS Awaiting Agreements on Cross Border Cargo Tracking

Global Computing Solutions PLC is now awaiting agreements between Ethiopia and Djibouti to kick start operations at the Port of Djibouti, according to Bekele Gabremedhin, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Location Based Service operated by Global Computing Solutions.

MTN Ethiopia Sponsors the National Football Team

MTN Ethiopia signed a 6-million Ethiopian birr sponsorship contract with the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF). The sponsorship agreement is aimed at supporting the national football team, the Walias, for one year period, with the a possibility of extension.

As part of the agreement, MTN Ethiopia will be a second-tier sponsor, and the exclusive value-added services (VAS) provider of the EFF. USAID Launches Camel Milk Value Chain Development Project

The U.S. government has launched the Camel Milk Value Chain Development Project in Somali Regional State, Ethiopia, according to a statement the Embassy sent to Ethiopian News Agency on Thursday, the new project will support up to 50,000 small-holder livestock keepers. The project is launched as part of the U.S. President's Feed the Future Initiative in Ethiopia through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) said it is expanding biofertilizer technology in Ethiopia.

Soil and Water Research Directorate Director with Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research , Doctor Tolossa Debele, told Walta Information Center, the new technology would enable to double pulse production.

The new biofertilizer technology has a significant contribution in maintaining soil fertility and natural resources as well as replacing Urea fertilizer, he said.

Kanoria Chemicals & Industries Establishing a Textile Processing Plant in Ethiopia

Kanoria African Textiles PLC, a subsidiary of India based  Kanoria Chemicals & Industries, is establishing a denim fabric manufacturing factory in Ethiopia, the first of its kind in East Africa.

The company will erect the factory on a 153,000 sq m plot squired on lease in Bishoftu town of Oromia Regional State, 44 km southeast of Addis Ababa. when construction is completed in January 2014, the factory will have a capacity to produce 12 million meters of denim annually. Allana Potash Files Application for Mining License in Ethiopia

Allana Potash, a Canadian company focusing on potash asset development and several potash concessions in Ethiopia has announced last week that it has filed a complete feasibility study to the Ethiopian Ministry of Mines in a bid to acquire a mining license.

The Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessment report, which comprises the mining license application is also in the final approval stage and the company is expecting a decision by the end of this month, according a press statement released on the Company's official website.
