Ethiopian Airlines, the leading airline in Africa, announced in a press release sent to 2merkato.com that the frequency of its flights to Chinese cities would increase as of 6 February 2023. The frequency will ultimately return to the pre-COVID19 levels on 1 March 2023 following the lifting of restrictions by the Government of China. As of 6 February 2023, Ethiopian Airlines will operate daily flights to Guangzhou while increasing its weekly flights to Beijing and Shanghai to four each and maintains the trice weekly operation to Chengdu.

Ethiopian Agricultural Authority announced that meat would be exported to China and Indonesia. Ethiopia has already expanded its meat export destination to the Far East. It was able to earn USD 50 million from meat exported within the last six months.

Dashen Bank launched a credit transaction service called Dube Ale in collaboration with Eaglelion System Technologies which would allow the bank’s customers to pay for their purchases within three, six, and twelve months after the date of purchase. The service is available with and without interest.

Ethiopian Enterprise Development (EED) distributed loans totaling Birr 1.1 billion within the first half of this fiscal year to boost the capacity of enterprises. EED was also able to create employment opportunities for 13,774 individuals by establishing 1,647 new enterprises during the same period.

Hawassa Industrial Park secured USD 32 million from goods exported to the international market within the past three months.

The park which is located 275 kilometers south of Addis Ababa was inaugurated in 2016 as the first industrial park of the country. It started operation the same year with 52 factory sheds which were rented out mostly to foreign companies.

Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) and Ethiopian Airlines discussed ways to collaborate on promoting Ethiopia’s investment potential. The two institutions also discussed to work together on manpower skill development.

Anbessa Elite Technical Textile Industry, an Israeli company, entered Bahir Dar Industrial Park to produce apparel and textile with a USD 3 million capital. The company is expected to create employment opportunities for 1000 individuals when it becomes fully operational.
