Ethio Telecom has inaugurated a super fast electric vehicle charging station in Adama, marking the company’s first such facility outside Addis Ababa.
The new station has the capacity to charge up to 12 vehicles simultaneously. It becomes the fourth EV charging station in Ethio Telecom’s network, following the establishment of three similar facilities in Addis Ababa.
Located along a key economic corridor, the Adama station is expected to improve service efficiency, reduce waiting times for drivers, and support economic activity in the area.
The company plans to expand similar charging infrastructure to other cities as demand for electric mobility continues to grow. In addition to public charging stations, Ethio Telecom is also building EV charging facilities for institutions to broaden access to the service.
The Adama station is compatible with both European and Chinese electric vehicle models. The expansion of EV charging infrastructure is part of the broader Digital Ethiopia 2030 initiative.
According to company data, Ethio Telecom’s EV charging stations in Addis Ababa have so far served 284,000 vehicles and delivered a total of 7.1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity.
The company says this has helped avoid about 10 million kilograms of carbon emissions, an environmental impact it equates to planting around 49,000 trees.
Institutions can also integrate their charging stations into the National EV Charging Platform, which gives drivers real time information on station locations, queue status, and other key service details.
