Ethiopia has launched a new Construction Monitoring Information System, a digital platform designed to improve transparency, accountability, and regulatory efficiency across the country’s construction industry.
The system was introduced as part of the National Construction Industry Transformation Initiative, a reform program led by the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure (MoUI) to modernize the sector and enhance service delivery.
During the launch ceremony, Minister Chaltu Sagni said the new platform would improve construction supervision by enabling real time monitoring and digital record keeping. She noted that the initiative represented a step toward ensuring quality and professional standards in public and private construction projects.
Dr. Mesfin Negewo, Director General of the Ethiopian Construction Authority, highlighted that creating a secure and credible information system is essential to promote transparency, minimize irregularities, and maintain data integrity in the sector.
Developed collaboratively by MoUI, the Ethiopian Construction Authority, and the Ethiopian Information Network Security Administration (INSA), the platform connects more than 26,000 institutions and industry players, including contractors, consultants, and developers.
Officials expressed confidence that the system will streamline project oversight and help address long standing governance challenges in the industry. With improved digital management and regulatory systems, the construction sector’s share of Ethiopia’s GDP is expected to increase from 20 percent to 24 percent in the coming years.
