Ethiopian Airlines to Commence Operation of its New Cold Warehouse Facility

Ethiopian Airlines has completed construction of cold warehouse facility at a cost of 63 million birr at Bole International Airport.

The construction was started five months ago. The civil work of the cold warehouse was carried out by Asmelash and Sons PLC, a local construction company, while Celtic Cooling, a German based company has supplied and installed the cold room devices and accessories. The facility, which has the capacity to serve four aircrafts at a time will be used to store perishable cargo.

In a related news, Ethiopian Airlines has commenced the construction of a modern aircraft maintenance hangar at a cost of USD 100 million. The airliner already has three maintenance hangars. The hangar now under construction will be able to accommodate huge aircrafts like the Dreamliner, B777, B767 and B747 aircraft.

A Chinese construction company, AVIC, is contracted for the work. The project is scheduled to be completed in two years.

Ethiopian Airlines has also leased three Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft from aa Dublin based international aircraft leasing company.  Ethiopian leased three 787-8 aircraft that will be delivered in January, March and April 2015 respectively.
