French-Djiboutian Delegation Visits Ethiopia

A delegation of representative of French and Djiboutian business visited Ethiopia last week. The delegation was led by Banque Pour Le Commerce et L’Industrie - Mer Rouge (BCIMR) in Djibouti and its French parent BRED Banque Populaire.

The delegation is made up of a diverse group of 10 members with backgrounds ranging from banking to aviation and insurance.

Company’s represented include a company dealing with medical products and health care, an insurance college and long time Canadian partner and the International Bank of Canada said Emmanuel Lemoigne Director General of BRED.

PPESA to Hand over Privatized Enterprises

The Ethiopian Privatization and Public Enterprises Supervising Agency is to officially hand over six state coffee farms and four other enterprises to private investors.

PPESA is also expected to give a final decision with regards to Batu Construction, Awash Winery, Coffee Technology Development Enterprise, Ghion Hotel and the seven coffee farms under Limu Coffee Farm and its headquarters in Jimma town.

The Board of PPESA which is in charge of approving the sale of privatization of any public enterprise and are expected to approve the transfer to winners of the bidding process.

Iceland's Reykjavík Geothermal colse to reach deal with EEPCo

Iceland's Reykjavík Geothermal is close to reach a deal with the state owned utility company, Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) for a power purchasing agreement (PPA). EEPCo's previous negotiations with foreign and domestic companies for a power purchasing agreement (PPA) were not fruitful as asking price quoted by the companies was high.

Ethiopian Airlines to Launch Flights to South Eastern Nigeria

Ethiopian Airlines is planning to begin flights to the South Eastern Nigeria city of Enugu. The airline will begin offering flights to this destination as part of its plans to increase its destinations to Africa’s most populous country.

The airline has plans to fly to a range of destinations in Nigeria including to the Southern Central Port City Port Harcourt, Kano the largest city in Northern Nigeria as well as increasing the number of flights to the capital, Abuja according to Tewolde Gebremariam, Chief Executive of Ethiopian.

The airline wants to increase the number of flights to Abuja because the Abuja-Addis-Asia route and the Abuja-Addis-Dubai-Bangkok-China route are currently the best flight options for passengers flying to Nigeria he said.

IGAD Countries Discuss Human Capital Development Strategy

The seven IGAD countries, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, South Sudan, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda sent more than 80 representatives to Djibouti for a consultation on the first Human Capital Development Strategy organized by the African Development Bank.

Human Capital Development is essential to safeguard the peace and security of the region and the continent noted Dileita Mohammed Dileita, Prime Minister of Djibouti.  It is also essential to consider employment opportunities for young people who are the future of the continent he said.

Young people should not be relegated to the sidelines in the decision making process on programs that affect their future said the Ugandan Assistant Commissioner for Youth and Children’s affairs. It is essential to revive the patriotism and engagement of young people he noted.
